Recommended books

We have now reached the end of my tommorow when the war began review, if you enjoyed this book you may want to read the rest of the tomorrow series which display exitement and adrenaline.or you may want to consider other simalar books such as:

Red dawn
In this book America is invaded by North Korea and a group of people escape to the woods. Whilst in the woods they make the dicision to fight the enemy with guerrilla tactics. Red dawn is very simalar to tommorow when the war began and shares the same theme with teenagers being forced to fight dependantly against invaders.

How I live now
This book is slightly different from tomorrow when the war began however it shares some simalar themes, Elizabeth is sent to live on a farm when unknown foreign invader take control of the United Kingdom and the farm, Elizabeth I sent away to another house which only houses females, she must learn to cope without males. When the war is over she experiences difficulty piecing her life back together.

Alternate ending

The bike wouldn't start, soldier were approaching Lee and I, then the bridge exploded. We were thrown 20 meters through the air the heat was immense we landed with a thud, I crawled over to Lee he was face down I rolled him over, he spoke to me, his voice was faint
" I'm going to die Ellie," he said
"No! You can't die! I won't let you!"
" it's too late Ellie, goodbye."

We were all crying Homer placed Lee's body in the grave and Kevin began shoveling the dirt back into the pit.

Throughout the next month or so Lee's grave became decorative, everyone would occasionally place a flower or pebble on the burial, I have now placed 37 roses from the hermites hut on Lee's resting place, one for each day he has been dead.

Despite the grief we have experienced we have decided we will head back to wirrawee and fight, fight for our country, our family, our friends and for Lee.

Themes and issues

In the novel there a few themes and topics the book is exploring

1:  the main story line is obviously the invasion. Since the invasion the gang has taken part is some guerrilla activity such as blowing up three soldiers and barging through town in a bulldozer but have mainly kept to their business undercover and undetected. The gang have now fled the town back to hell where they will seek refuge for a while

2: the hermit from hell. Throughout the novel information about the hermit from hell has been revealed. He is notorious for being a double murderer, killing his own wife and children then fleeing to hell to hide. It is then revealed there was a bush fire it is unknown whether the hermit actually humainly put his wife and children out of their misery who were badly burned and lacking all chance of survival, or do you think the hermit murdered them and lit the fire to cover up the crime and provide a credible allybuy? Do you think the hermit murdered his wife and child or had to free them from their suffering?

3: romance. Ellie has so far had confusing feelings towards both Homer and Lee and is undecided on her opinion towards them both however Homer likes Fi as Fi likes Homer but does that make Ellie obligated to commit to Lee?

Journal entry

Robyn prepared Lee as I lowered the shovel, Robyn climbed up the truck into the cabin and I quickly reversed. I steered the dozer in the right direction as the bullets started flying hitting every inch of the steel truck with a loud thud. Two cars were chasing us but one crashed adding another two deaths to my tragically growing deaths tally.we eventually made it to a BMW Homer had stolen for us which we then escaped to chris langs house before we abandoned the car in the dam and astonishingly found chris who had been hiding on his property since the invasion. We shared our stories before chris convinced us to let him join the gang. We are no longer the secret seven but the great eight.

How will the book end?

I am currently half way through the book and the action in intense. As there is another six books in the series I certainly don't think there will be a huge resolution at the end of the book. Maybe wirrawee will be taken back by Australia with help of the Australian defence force aswell as Ellie and the gang, maybe the people in the show grounds will rebel and be set free or Ellie's gang will kill a leader of the foreign army or a group of invading soldier. I'm sure the text will end with some important triumph but the war will be far from over.

Character development

I think all characters have developed and will further develope throughout the novel however, So far I presume that Homer will have the biggest change throughout the text as he already shows sighns of maturing. Homer has expressed his affection for Fi already showing that he has changed from a tough guy with "no emotion" to a somewhat more realistic character. I think Homer will further develope by establishing a relationship with Fi and also by the hardship the text has so far foreshadowed.

First impressions

I found the opening chapter of the book very confusing but once the scene was set I understood that the key protagonist Ellie was writing the story to document their achievements, the first 5 chapters of the book still provided little entertainment but I assume there is excitement to come judging from the title and unusual clues such as fleets of fighter jets and fires everywhere which foreshadow that something unusual is going on. The characters seem real enough besides Homer, I have never met someone with similar traits and characteristics of Homer. So far Lee seems less important than the other protagonist and is relatively unheard of however Ellie does describe him as being quiet. So far the novel is enjoyable however lacks excitement and has still not gotten to the conflict in the story.
